“You Tom Fluharty?” Said the editor holding Tom’s portfolio under his arm, ” Don’t ever bring this shit around here again… C’mon in.” And so began Tom’s freelance career with the cover of MAD magazine back in 1995. Soon afterwards The New York Times called and things took off from there. His work has also been featured on covers for Der Spiegel, and Time Magazine, who gave the cover to the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection. His work is notably featured for The Weekly Standard, for whom he has painted over 100 covers. Other clients have included People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, The Village Voice, Coca-Cola, and the New York Times.
